There's less thank 2 weeks to go before I jet off to Sydney for a musical boot-camp and to compete in this year's Telstra Road To Discovery semi-finals in Sydney! Regardless of the outcome of the semi-final performance i'm certain its going to be a cracking experience for all of the 14 performer category semi-finalists and 4 songwriter category of which i'm one of! Thanks a bunch to the TRTD team for giving me this opportunity and i'm really looking forward to the whole whopping experience in Sydney!
Sitting at Melbourne airport, sipping on my umpteenth beverage at the pub after sitting through 7 (of 9) hours wait for my connecting flight back home from Tassie. i'm exhausted! and delirious. but equally content and excited about the new friends and fans made in Tassie. It feels like i was on the road for much more than 2 weeks... and its not because i wasn't having fun. Tassie is one of those places that has all my favourite things, great food, wine, lots of arty folk, beauty, abundant wildlife and forests, cows and their cheese and chocolate coated raspberries. This trip i managed to see a little bit more of the island and revisit some favourite spots.
each of my performances were great in their own way, from the well known established venues to the up and coming venues spread around the island. It was a great trip and i'd like to thank everyone i met along the way for their generous hospitality, friendship, laughs and gratitude i received. i look forward to seeing you all again when i return!
recently i had performances at 2 weddings and a funeral - all in the same week. when i perform at weddings its not uncommon for me to have other young couples who have their big day approaching to see if i am available for their big day... but recently i also performed for a Riverland friend's funeral and i was surprised at the number of people who came over to me afterwards and told me that they want me to perform at their funerals!
At my best mate's wedding up in Noosa a year ago i also had her hilarious grandmother approach me... earlier in the night she had arranged with my sister to be her bridesmaid at her wedding but she also booked me in for her funeral - tee heee! she wants me to perform "Unchained Melody" by the Righteous Brothers but told me i'll have to be flexible with the date as she doesn't know when its going to be yet!
Just relaxing with a bottle of the Riverland's own tasty "Amazon Ale" and sending through a little note to thank you all for your support throughout 2010!
Wishing you all a very merry and safe christmas... and a happy, healthy and prosperous 2011!
