the penny has finally dropped…
its taken multiple conversations, an unknown amount of tea and coffee and much sleep to finally digest what happened to me almost 2 weeks ago! I was amongst 10 of Australia's finest independent, emerging talent and was plucked out as the songwriter winner for 2012. Even as i write those words it still seems surreal. To have the support and acknowledgement of talent from some of Australia's amazing industry professionals has left me with an overwhelming feeling of excitement, happiness and confidence to be able to keep doing what i love.
I really do need to thank all of the people involved in the Telstra Road To Discovery Program, apologies if i miss anyone!! Sam, Rachel & the fabulous team at Telstra who work on this project all year, Paul & Rachel from Naked Communications, Mel & Kate from Javelin, Glen Hannah and the incredibly talented band who supported us all at the semi-final and final performances, Bill, Louis & Karl from Mushroom, James & Ella for the MC'ing at boot-camp and then James who went solo for the semi-final and final, to the judging panel who voted for me, to the industry pro's who mentored us on the various panels at the boot-camp, to Nicky and the charming camera crew from Chief Entertainment who filmed us along the way, and last but not least all the incredibly talented singer-songwriter/performers I met and became friends with along the way.
Not to sound like one of those people you'd change the channel on when watching the logies but I have had many talented musical mates around me over the years providing support and guidance... to all of them I owe a massive thank you and would like to acknowledge some of them...
To name a few... Heather Frahn spent a year mentoring me in 2010 after we received a grant from Australia Council. An extremely talented multi-instrumentalist who has been in the game for years - I was in safe hands! Her help, skills and generosity enabled me to successfully release my debut album and without her guidance i'm sure it wouldn't have ran as smoothly!
George Grifsas has been one of my good friends and mentors and he is an extremely talented guitarist! Years ago I was also lucky enough to be taught some guitar by George and in that short time it provided me with some great grounding to develop my guitar skills.
Anthony Stewart of Red Brick Music in Adelaide. A very humble and talented man who understands the sound palette and so tastefully mixed my album for me.
righto, thats probably enough from me.
chow for now...
